About Me

Hi!

My name is William Chan — I’m an AI researcher / data scientist with seven plus years of experience in all things related to AI / ML, data science, and analytics.  I graduated from Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science with a master’s degree in computer science, on the machine learning track.  I also graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  My background gives me a strong foundation in understanding the concepts that undergird artificial intelligence.

I have expertise in neural networks, deep learning, information retrieval, regression analysis, clustering analysis, and graphical models.  I have worked with the following tools — Python, Jupyter, Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Amazon Web Services, Hadoop, HiveQL, R, PL / SQL, PostgreSQL, Java, Weka, C and OpenCV.

I am based in New York City, USA — the greatest city in the world!

Before I went into this exciting career of data, automation, and silicon-based entities, I was once part of a shadowy, clandestine society of warrior monks charged with protecting potatoes as they traveled from farms to dinner tables all across America.  Whatever shape they took — be it raw, mashed, or deep-fried — we swore an oath to do whatever was necessary to make sure those little spuds arrived safe and sound.

Before going into this exciting world of data, automation, and silicon-based entities, I’ve had prior stints in logistics, finance, and IT, before finally realizing that a career in computer science / AI is what I really want to pursue.

I’m always looking for opportunities that would utilize my professional expertise, so please contact me if you have a job opening or a project that requires data science / analytics / machine learning / AI skills.  I also welcome comments, questions, or even just a simple “hello”.
